Well done to all who participated in today's mini marathon of which above are a few of the winners. Also winners were over a hundred other students who took part in the marathon as part of Active Schools week. Well done to all.
Athy College fifth year students take to the water as sixteen participants take part in a Level 2 Kayaking skills course with ARC member and past pupil, Johnny O'Toole. For the next few weeks students will be learning their skills on the Barrow in the hope of reaching certification level.
The General Secretary of the Department of Education and the Minister for Education Ms Jan O'Sullivan were both educated by the students of Athy College at the European Eportfolio Conference in Dublin Castle. We are very proud of them and their teachers
Athy College today is one of the four Irish schools presenting at the European EUFolio Conference in Dublin Castle. "Transforming teaching and learning through ePortfolios" is the theme with seven European countries sharing best practice in using technology in education. A great honour to be selected for this project.
Athy Film Club held the Kildare premiere of local film "All About Eva" on Fri night followed by a Q and A session with some cast and production team. The movie is a great showcase for the Athy area and the local talent and a credit to all invoilved
Fifth years today sat their DATs test. DAT of differential Aptitude Testing is a well tested method of determining students aptitude in several areas and can be very helpful in career selection.
Safety First as 16 fifth year students embark on a Level 2 certified kayaking course. With the amenity of the river and canal so close to us it is great to get our students to experience it. Johnny O'Toole for the Athy Rowing and Canoe club will take the students through their paces. Once the preliminary safety training is undertaken it is on to the water!
"All About Eva" is a feature film set in Co. Kildare. A thriller about the racing industry with some dark humour which was shot on location in Athy. This Friday night it will be shown by Athy Film Club in Athy College at 8pm . Tickets €5. It is advisable to get your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment (Hyland Butchers)
Last night was Subject Choice night as parents of incoming first years and those about to begin Leaving Cert were given information on the expanding range of subjects on offer. Thanks to all for the extraordinary turn out.
Congratulations to teachers Ms O' Brien and Ms C. Doyle on being selected to video present the use of the new technologies of efolios, Mahara and Moodle for national traing of second level teachers. Class group Connacht showed their skills in using iPads, laptops, etc to store their work on electronic media. Well done to all.
