3/4/2017

Athy College is about to undergo a massive expansion with the sanction of €10 million for the Department of Education and ScienceThe new development will increase the number of pupils in the school from 400 to 1,000 in a massive increase in pupil numbers, helping to deal with the demand for school places in the area.

South Kildare TD Martin Heydon confirmed the extension of the school, stating that it will be a big boost for the area.
“The 600 pupil extension which will be built by KWETB is expected to cost circa €10m and will bring Athy Community College up to a 1,000 pupil school. " he said.
Deputy Heydon also expressed how happy he was for the staff at the community college, saying that it is something they deserve as they continue their hard work in the south of the county.
“I am delighted for Richard Daly, the principal of Athy Community College and all of his very dedicated staff that the great work they do on the fantastic education campus in Athy is being recognised by the Department, as is the need for increased provision of secondary school places in Kildare South. I will continue to work with the school board of management throughout the process until we see the extension delivered, hopefully in the very near future.
