Per Cent for Art Scheme

Picture
Under the Percent for Art Scheme Athy College commissioned two individual pieces to be located on the college grounds.

The Hare Queen

The Hare Queen is a bronze sculpture 2.5 metros high which sits on a Wicklow grant base.  the sculpture by Fidelma Massey was designed to celebrate the hares which co-exist on the college site.
The Hare Queen is the mother of the hares, their deity/protectress - one of Mother Nature's many guises.
She holds the crescent moon in her ears.  Hares have always been associated with the Moon.

Sleeping Hare
A stone sculpture by Aileen Anne Brannigan of the Hare compliments other stone carvings by the same sculptress throughout the campus.  The carvings pay tribute to the various native animals in the area.
