Developing Programmes

Picture
Athy College has been to the forefront in education innovation not only locally but at a national level.  Teachers from Athy College have played a major role in developing the current Junior Cert Schools programme from its inception.
Our staff were involved in the pilot phase of the Leaving Certificate Applied programme and delivered inservice on the programme both nationally and locally.

ICT in Education

Picture
In the area if ICT many of our teachers have delivered national inservice to teachers from other schools both Primary and Post Primary and the college has long been recognised for its strengths in the new technologies.  Most recently five of the teaching staff have completed NCTE training in e-learning with a view to further developing the role of ICT in education

Teaching Method

Picture
Athy College staff have developed strong links with the NCCA in developing and promoting new teaching method.  Our work with them on developing Key Skills has seen a staff member deliver a presentation in Canada on behalf of the Irish education system.
More recent work on Instructional Leadership has once again put us to the fore in piloting a national initiative in teaching method

Launch of Instructional Leadership 5/3/12

Picture
Well done to students and teachers from Athy College who today gave Minister
Quinn living examples of instructional leadership in the classroom.  Students
showed the Minister how mindmaps, teams games tournament, placemates and other
techniques can assist students in engaging in their own learning.  A wonderful
example of teaching and learning in action.

In a caring school, we are dedicated to fostering educational excellence, empowering all students to reach their full potential - academic and social, physical and spiritual. Through partnership and co-operation we openly respect and nurture the dignity and uniqueness of each individual.
